Engine CheckUp "The Immediate Marine
Engine Analysis"
How long does it take before
you can see test results?
The absorption process will take between 2-15 minutes
at room temperature depending on the condition of the
oil. The condition of the oil, influences of humidity,
air flow and oil quality will dictate the absorption
time by the test medium. If fuel is in the oil, a light
and transparent ring will spread around the outside
oil circle within 15 to 30 minutes after the absorption
is complete. Generally, a result of the sediment and
oil condition can be ascertained within an hour of application.
Final analysis of all contaminants may require a longer
period, up to 24 hours. Your will notice the results
clarify as time progresses.
How accurate is the EngineCheckUp?
Extremely accurate by the standards of efficacy of the
TÜV. EngineCheckUp will show you if and to what
degree contaminants are damaging the engine: grime or
combustion residue, water or glycol or if there is fuel
in the oil. The test will also show you whether your
lubricating oil is oxidized or worn.
What are the alternatives to
the EngineCheckUp?
EngineCheckUp is a new standard of testing. We are not
aware of any alternatives.
What important diagnostic functions
does the EngineCheckUp
paper not cover?
We are not aware of any important functions of an internal
combustion engine that EngineCheckUp does not cover.
How frequently should I use the
EngineCheckUp?
We recommend every 50 to 100 running hours.
If there are problems demonstrated
by the EngineCheckUp should
I repeat the test?
After repairs have been made, the test should be repeated
after 10 hours of use.
How do engine problems occur?
Many reasons, some of which are as follows: Not using
the recommended fuel for your boat. Too long between
oil changes. Wrong type of oil or low oil level. High
content of sulphur in fuel. Incorrect tuning of carburetor.
Defects in injection, exhaust or turbo systems. Faulty
ignition timing, valve timing or piston rings. Short
and frequent running periods. Running a cold engine.
Leaking seals.
Does the engine have to be warm
or cold when take the drop of motor oil for the test?
We recommend the engine should be warm for an accurate
reading.
How long does it take before
you can see test results?
Some problems will be detected within 2-3 minutes as
the test medium absorbs the oil. The rule of thumb is;
the better the oil, the faster the oil will be absorbed
by the test medium.
If water is in the oil, peaks will immediately appear
around the oil circles. Glycol (anti-freeze) will create
a yellow ring around the spot after 5 to 10 minutes.
If fuel is in the oil, a light and transparent ring
will spread around the oil spot within 10 to 15 minutes.
It is recommended to leave the test overnight if you
are testing highly contaminated oil.
Will the results remain on the
paper indefinitely?
Yes.
What happens if two drops of
oil fall on the paper?
The test results will not be accurate. Only one drop
of oil is required.
How big should the drop be?
The size is not important. The fact that it is ONE drop
is the test requirement.
How long will the EngineCheckUp
paper last?
The chemical process does not deteriorate over time.
What are the best conditions
in which to store EngineCheckUp?
Room temperature inside the airtight marine package.
I use synthetic oil. Will this
test work on my engine oil?
Yes, the test will work with any type of engine lubricating
oil, including synthetic blends and partial blends.
Would the addition of chemical
"additives" have any effect on the test results?
No. Additives have no effect on the test.
What does TUV mean?
The TÜV, abbreviation of Technischer Überwachungsverein
(“Technical Monitoring Association”) evaluates
tests for efficacy and certifies the safety and quality
of products in numerous categories. The TÜV Mark
is important because an independent, technically expert
organization that does not have a financial interest
in the product's ultimate profitability determines whether
foreseeable risks associated with the product's use
have been eliminated or minimized.
Once in the marketplace, a product must continue to
meet quality requirements in order to bear the TÜV
Mark or the mark will be removed by TÜV. It is
important to note that TÜV tested EngineCheckUp
and endorses its efficacy.
